A partnership class for a nationwide movement to get children off screens and outdoors. Unbored + Outdoors is a class designed for mixed-age development. Participants learn independence, problem-solving and confidence through accomplishing goals.
Our mission is to create vibrant, inclusive learning environments where children are empowered to explore, create, take on challenges, and develop confidence and independence through meaningful, play-based experiences. Through hands-on exploration and time outdoors, children build foundational skills while learning to make choices, navigate challenges, and grow into capable, confident, and independent learners.
Sticks & Sprouts is supported by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in occupational therapy, speech therapy, public education, child development, and outdoor education. Our curriculum continually evolves through this collaboration, ensuring our programs are thoughtful, developmentally appropriate, and grounded in how children learn and grow through meaningful outdoor experiences.
Together, we bring these diverse areas of expertise to one shared goal: creating engaging outdoor learning experiences where children feel supported, capable, and excited to explore, learn, and grow.
Our founding location is in Fair Haven, NJ, but the Sticks & Sprouts approach is reaching more communities. Today, our programming runs across multiple New Jersey school districts, with an Outpost operating in Gainesville, GA. Through our Outpost model, we help local leaders bring intentional, play-based outdoor learning to their own communities, with the guidance and support to build successful programs.
Proud to partner with organizations that share our mission to help children unplug, get outside, and experience more through play.
Sticks & Sprouts and Rumson Country Day School have joined together to deliver a program that is embedded into the school day. We’ve created an outdoor learning site at Rumson Country Day School, so that each week, all year long, students participate in outdoor programming to enhance academic outcomes and student achievement. Through a blend of both structured and child led activities, students gain independent learning skills through hands-on discovery.
Our program at Holy Cross Academy is designed for after-school success. Students go right from their classroom to our outdoor learning site, meaning parents have a later pick-up and students are given space and freedom to explore and move. A great way to avoid the after-school meltdown, and provide much needed time outdoors.
The Outdoor School Shop has provided essential gear for both our children and class teachers. Running programming outdoors can bring weather related challenges, but with Outdoor School Shop essentials, we can stay outdoors longer, meaning more learning and exploration.
At Meadow Flower Nursery School, we offer an extended school day that includes a two-hour outdoor immersion program. Students walk to our outdoor site, where they participate in a wide range of enriching activities that promote development, independence, and a deeper connection with nature.
